Environmental Excellence

In this day and age of environmental sensitivity, the impact of golf courses on the natural environment is constantly being questioned. The team at Scott Miller Golf Design has been involved with several projects that have proven that golf courses can not only co-exist with their surroundings, but in many cases, they can enhance and improve the existing conditions.

The transformation of a contaminated lumber mill site into an inspirational golf course that reflects the beauty of its lakeside setting at The Coeur d'Alene Resort in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, as well as the implementation of the first large-scale program for the salvage and revegetation of native Sonoran Desert plant material at Desert Highlands Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, are just two examples of Scott Miller Design's commitment to producing innovative design solutions that respond to the unique characteristics and requirements of each site. This dedication was recognized by the receipt of the Urban Land Institute's "Award for Excellence" for environmental reclamation at Coeur d'Alene, and the American Society of Landscape Architects' "Annual Merit Award" at Desert Highlands.

In addition, Scott Miller Golf Design is proud of its completed golf courses that have been selected for membership into the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program, which was established by Audubon International and the United States Golf Association.

Worldwide water availability, irrigation requirements and application methods greatly influence the design of golf courses. Scott Miller has spent 30 years living and working in Arizona, one of the nation's most progressive water use states, and will assist in identifying available water sources and determining how this resource will impact your golf course. Scott's knowledge and experience addressing these issues has allowed him to produce the most water-use efficient, playable golf courses in the industry.
